There are 3 types of magnets for commercial truck sweepers:
Front mounted magnets are mounted in a similar way as a snow plow, they allow you to pick up debris before you drive over it, but they also tend to be more expensive because of the unique connection mounting assemblies required.
Tow behind magnets come in on road or off-road types with different features to suit different uses.
Hanging magnets usually hung from the front of the Commercial Truck like a Front Mount magnet to allow you to pick up debris before you drive over it. They can be simple or contain many features to improve their ease of use and usefulness. They are usually the most economical option.
The PYR hanging magnet was designed for flat terrain and “on road” type uses where not much ground strike prevention is needed. “On road” type bump wheels are provided on the ends to eliminate magnet strikes due to occasional potholes and speed bump type obstacles.
Choose from 2 different models with different magnet strengths, and 6 different magnet lengths from 3 to 8 feet, to get the perfect setup for your application.
Maximum lifting height of 6” inches (using a 2 ½ inch nail) for the PYR 3”x3” model, and 9 ¼” inches for the PYR 4.5”x4.5” model. Measuring Magnetic Sweeper pickup power and performance.

Standard debris clean off method is to wipe the magnet clean with a glove or rag. However a black PVC Quick Clean Off Sleeve accessory may be purchased separately for quick and easy debris removal.

With 10” inch x 3” inch wide flat proof Bumper wheels. The EIGER was designed for those slightly more off-road surfaces with more uneven surfaces such as dirt and gravel where potholes and bumps exist.
Designed with wide wheels to stay on top of those surfaces, and also designed with a greater minimum sweeping height of 2.5”inches to prevent the sweeper from hitting the ground.
Comes standard with black PVC Quick Clean Off Sleeve for easy debris removal, and 4 hanging chains with 8 quick clips to hang the EIGER from your vehicle.

The ISO magnetic sweeper is a hanging magnet design specifically designed for highway maintenance operations.
The ISO design allows you to leave the magnet permanently mounted, enabling you to lower and deploy the magnet for use when needed, and then easily raise and secure it when not needed or for transport between locations.
High end “bumper wheels” keep the magnet off the ground and multiple mounting points keep this magnet where it should be.

The KHAMSIN hanging magnet was designed for more “off road” applications such as gravel, sand, and dirt roads and yards, or grass covered areas. Ideal for rural roads or gravel roadsides. Ideal for gravel parking lots and driveways.
The KHAMSIN design allows you to leave the magnet permanently mounted, enabling you to lower and deploy the magnet for use when needed, and then easily raise and secure it when not needed or for transport between locations.
Larger 10” x 3” flat proof bump wheels keep the magnet from hitting the ground or sinking into softer ground surfaces.
The KHAMSIN has a slightly higher minimum sweeping height of 2.5” inches compared to the ISO’s minimum sweeping height of 1.75” inches, in order to operate more effectively in off road applications.

The AETHER hanging magnet was designed for those off road dirt and gravel situations where more ground strike prevention is needed than the EIGER provides, but less ground strike prevention than the REMORAS provides.
The 10” x 3” flat proof bump wheels on the ends prevent the magnet from hitting the ground and from sinking into loose surfaces, and the wheeled outriggers provide additional ground strike prevention in the middle of the magnet’s overall length.

With outdoor rated IP65 12-volt DC actuators rated at 562 lbs each and 7.5” inches of up and down movement for remote controlled raising and lowering of magnet from raised travelling to lowered sweeping position.
The ALPHA is the same as the AETHER magnetic sweeper but with the addition of the remote-controlled electric actuators for up and down movement.

The Nyx Heavy Duty Hanging Magnetic Sweeper is built to endure heavy duty terrain while clearing metal debris. An Aluminum quick clean off sleeve protects the magnet housing from impacts and crush forces and allows debris to be removed from the magnetic field quickly and easily.
The Nyx also features 10.5” x 3.25” inch Carlisle flat free wheels with UHMW bushings replacing standard ball bearings for greater impact resistance and smooth operation. These wheels will touch down on terrain changes before the clean off sleeve so the Nyx can glide over obstacles rather than strike the ground.
A 4.5” x 4.5” inch permanently charged C8 magnet housing allows the Nyx to pull a 2.5” inch 8 penny nail from up to 8.25” inches off the ground. Maximize Safety and Speed with the new industry standard for heavy truck magnetic sweeping
The Baffin magnetic sweeper is designed to be the premier front mounted heavy commercial truck magnet on the market. It’s suspension system keeps the magnet planted at the right height through hard turns and over bumps to eliminate the need for constant height adjustment. The Baffin also has a clean-off system that allows drivers to empty the magnet quickly and safely from the truck cab without ever having to get out of the truck or handle debris.
With a maximum pickup height of 10.75”, the Baffin is well suited to collect any metal debris up to 25 km/h (~15 mph) at the recommended sweeping height of 2” inches.
And the two on-board removable 1.65 cubic foot debris bins allow for the 95” inch wide magnet to be cleaned off multiple times before the bins need to be emptied. This increases efficiency by letting the magnet spend more time sweeping. And by easily keeping the magnet clear of debris there is more power available to collect debris which further increases efficiency.
Sweeping height adjustment (recommended 2”-5” inches) is done using stroke control blocks on the hydraulic cylinders. Moving from sweeping height to the travelling height of 10.5” inches just requires a cycle of the hydraulics (this position can be maintained by inserting all the supplied stroke control blocks or you may rely on the hydraulic system to keep the magnet suspended).

The Aardvark Magnetic Sweeper is designed for landfill sites, construction sites, access roads, rail trails, mining areas or any larger rough terrain areas. With urethane foam filled flat free wheels, heavy duty construction. The Piranha magnetic sweeper is designed to hit the road! It’s the tow behind magnet to choose when you need to pickup metal from large areas like airport runways, roads or other flat surface applications.
It has lots of power, to allow greater speed while still picking up debris.
The Piranha has on board debris bins since when cleaning large areas, you could be a long way from home when you need to clean off the magnet. You can store the debris in the debris bins until you reach a dumping site. It also features larger highway rated tires to allow you to pull the unit down the road from location to location. Since the Piranha was designed for flat surfaces, the sweeping height is adjustable from 2″ to 3″ inches.

When you get into heavy trucks and commercial trucks you’re dealing with work environments and it becomes necessary to have a complete solution, not a work around with some problems. The ISO gives you the economy of a hanging magnet, together with some well thought out features such as ground strike protection, quick clean off capabilities, extra hanging and sway prevention points, and easy raising and lowering for quick deployment and securing when needed that allows you to leave it permanently connected. All the features add up to a nice compact solution that works in many commercial situations without a lot of hassle associated with using the magnet.

Trucks obviously have suspension and they absorb bumps but when they do, the height of the truck from the ground changes, and therefore any hanging magnet can hit the ground. And the rougher the ground, the more likely this is. So what’s going to prevent the magnet from hitting the ground if your truck suspension compresses 4 inches, or if it does what will protect the magnet? It’s something to consider when selecting a hanging magnet.
If you have an extensive debris problem that will almost certainly cause a flat tire if you run over the debris, then a front mount magnetic sweeper or hanging front mount is a necessity and may be the only consideration in your choice of magnet. A front mounted magnetic sweeper will pick up debris like nails before you run over it, something that seems obviously and practically much better than running over the debris before picking it up.
Hanging magnets are the most cost effective because a hanging magnet is essentially just a big magnet bar without most of the other mechanism’s that accompany a tow behind magnet or Front Mount magnet.
A Commercial Truck must be used for other tasks. Therefore it’s important that the magnet can be mounted and dismounted from the Commercial Truck quickly and easily, or alternatively, the magnet can be locked into a position where it will not interfere with normal operation of the truck when not being used for sweeping. If not, then the tow behind solution may be best for you because it can be easily and quickly hitched up when needed.
A magnet may work very well at picking up debris, but how easy is it to clean off? Think through how you would clean the magnet off step by step. Make sure it makes sense to you and your situation. We try and do this for you so that clean off isn’t a difficult or time-consuming task, but some manufacturers don’t. Pay attention to the details of how this will work from start to finish, right up to the point of getting the debris in the garbage or scrap bin.
You are not going to be cleaning your magnet off constantly, so it’s important that when your magnet does pick up a nail or screw that the magnet secures the debris so that it won’t fall off if the magnet is suddenly shaken because of a bump or if the bottom of the magnet hits the ground and the debris is wiped backward on the magnet. The last thing you want is for the debris to fall off again. Make sure your magnet has some feature like our “Wrap Around Feature”, it not only makes sure debris doesn’t get wiped off the bottom of the magnet, it makes the debris holding capacity higher and you’ll find in practice that most of your debris ends up on the side of your magnet not the bottom of it. And that’s a good indication to you why we have this feature.
We want to make sure our products meet your expectations. Therefore, make sure you look at our “maximum lifting height” specifications for each magnet option. We bench test every one of our magnetic sweeper models to determine their maximum lifting height of a two-and-a-half-inch standard nail. Everyone knows what a two-and-a-half-inch nail looks like which is why we use this standard measure of magnet strength and it will give you a very good idea of magnet performance. Many times, we have videos of our products picking up various other materials so take a look at the videos in the video galleries. They give you a chance to “kick the tires” and see how the products perform. Many of these videos have been submitted by previous customers.
The rougher, dirtier terrain your Commercial Truck operates in the stronger the magnet your likely going to want, because the magnet will have to be set higher to avoid constantly hitting the ground. The magnet will also need to pick up debris through some dirt therefore you need a stronger magnet. The rougher the terrain that exists because of things like bumps and pot holes, more you will want or favor a magnet that has some protection built in to the design to either deal with the abuse of hitting the ground or being able to move out of the way when it does hit the ground to prevent damage.
