The Gamma continuous discharge shotblasting magnet is a cost-effective way to streamline clean-up processes in medium – large shot blasting projects. Using the Gamma over a flip-up style magnet allows operators to do a more thorough and efficient job when picking up shot on hard surfaces.
The advantage of a continuous discharge magnet over the flip-up style comes from the finned PVC drum that removes shot from the magnetic field and deposits it into the 42Lbs capacity on-board debris tray as the sweeper is pushed. By keeping the magnet clean, 100% of the magnet’s power can be used for pulling shot up off the floor and from cracks up to 1 ¼” inches deep. Eliminating the loss of magnetic power that comes from holding shot on the magnet keeps pulling power constant, allowing the operator and sweeper to work at full potential all the time.
Cleaning up after surface preparation is quick and easy with the Gamma, the three-wheel setup with clutched drive wheels allows for one hand operation and zero-point turns. Okay, we’re out here at the East Star shot blasting site testing out our new ceramic-powered midsize continuous discharge magnet.
So this is the Gamma model. The Gamma model and the Quantum model were both kind of spin-off models related to our Fission magnet, which has been out forever.
So this Gamma is the ceramic equivalent of the Quantum sweeper. What that gives you is obviously a big savings on price and a pretty similar power level. The Gamma here has a pulling power—it can pull S550 shot from a crack depth of one and a half inches, or sorry, one and a quarter inches.
So that’s a half an inch less than the rare earth-powered model.
But for the savings and the ceramic power, it’s pretty good.
So this ceramic magnet has its power concentrated in two points, which you can see on the sweeper are marked by little blue markers there. When you’re going over a crack, you should try to keep those blue markers over the crack at its deepest part, and that’ll give the sweeper the best chance of pulling whatever shot out of there.
As you can see there, the two markers indicate where the power level is the strongest on this sweeper.
Those strong zones are a little wider than the markers are themselves, so you don’t have to be that precise when going over them, but just try to keep—whenever you’re going over a crack—keep those indicators in mind.
This model also has the precision bearings and eight-inch non-marking wheels that the other continuous discharge models do.
And it also has our new clutched drive wheels, which allow you to do those zero-point turns without having to lift the sweeper or have the wheel skip around on the concrete.
What this does for you is, even when you’re doing turns, that drum is still spinning because the outside wheel is going to be spinning faster, so it drives the drum. By just spinning, you’re cleaning off the magnet and then keeping that drum clean and filling up your debris tray.
You can see he’s going for a pretty tight sweeping pattern there, going back and forth, making sure he’s getting everything out.
All of these continuous discharge magnets come at one sweeping height. That’s set from the factory to make sure you’re at a close enough height that your power is going to be good, and you’re not going to be missing anything.
Because it’s a continuous discharge magnet, the speed you walk doesn’t really matter, because the faster you walk, the faster the magnet’s getting cleaned off, and it’s never losing any magnetic pull because of it. It doesn’t have to hold on to anything, so for every piece of debris that’s on the magnet, it loses a bit of power because it has to use some energy holding that piece of debris.
But with the continuous discharge models, you simply don’t have that problem because it’s always getting cleaned off, so the magnet’s always at full pulling capacity.
Shot blasting jobs that have any sort of size, it’s going to be much more efficient than your standard rolling magnet that might have a clean-off or something like that, because number one, it’s always clean, so it’s always at full power.
And you don’t have to clean it off as often. That debris tray in there will hold 42 pounds of S550 shot.
So you spend less time, you know, making piles on the floor, sweeping something up, and once all your debris is collected, you just pull that tray out and you’re good to go. Pull the tray out, dump it in whatever you dump it into, and then you just keep on going.
So these all roll really smoothly because they all have precision bearings in them. What that’s going to do for you is keep any debris, any shot, any dust out of the bearings, keep it from wearing out, and, you know, keep you having some smooth action here.
You can see the Gamma also has a front caster wheel, so there’s no need to pull the magnet down; you just kind of walk with it, it does its job.
So we have the shot dropped into a crack here, and he’s going over it, keeping that blue indicator on the front over the crack and making sure he’s got the best possible chance of getting all the debris, because that’s where the field is most concentrated.
The Gamma is a ceramic powered continuous discharge magnet developed from the popular Fission model. Upgrades have been made to the Gamma to improve efficiency. Clutched drive hubs and a front caster wheel allows the magnet to spin in place while still driving the clean off drum, eliminating the need to lift the sweeper to make turns which reduces user fatigue and makes operating this shot sweeper the easiest part of a surface prep job.

The Gamma is powered by C8 Ceramic magnets rather than the rare earth that powers the Quantum and Fission models. Ceramic magnets are less powerful, but the arrangement of the Gamma’s C8 magnets allow it to operate at nearly the same level as the rare earth models at a much lower price point. The peak power of the Gamma is concentrated in 2 places along the 25” inch effective sweeping width as indicated by the blue markers on the chassis. At these points of the magnet the gamma can pull S550 shot out of cracks or control joints up to 1 ¼” inch deep but thanks to the continuous discharge function of the magnet, the Gamma will stay at this strength level making it faster to use than a comparable flip up style magnet.

While ceramic magnets are heavier and weaker, they also come with a much lower price point and for most cases work perfectly fine if the weight of the sweeper is not an issue.

So we’re here with Reno today at the East Star Shop blasting facility, and this is, I think, our first Fusion we made. We gave it to you guys a year ago. How’s it been?
It’s a wonderful, wonderful magnet. I mean, I can’t say enough about it. It’s user-friendly, it’s very quick, very easy to dispense the shots in front of the machines. It picks up shots amazingly. I mean, I can’t say enough about it.
Okay. Yeah, I see you guys put a little chain on. You put a little chain on it. What’s the chain for?
We put it on the machine so that when we go down, and underground, the magnet comes with the machine.
Okay, great. And I think you’ve had a small chance to look at the ones we brought today. What do you think of those so far?
I think they’re great. They’re amazing magnets, bigger and better versions.
Bigger and better versions is better.
So you guys had a Theta before, right? One of our Rare Earth ones. And what do you think of the comparison between the ceramic versus Rare Earth power?
I think, you know what, there’s not—tell you the truth, there’s not much difference. We use them both; there’s not a whole lot of difference. If you don’t know the difference, you can’t tell.
Yeah, other than when you try to lift it up.
Yeah, right.
But if you guys are carrying it on the machine, then it doesn’t matter anyway.
That’s right. That’s right.
So would that be a consideration for you guys if you were going to use a bigger one? Would you tend to go to ceramic or Rare Earth?
It wouldn’t matter to us. It wouldn’t matter because they both work very, very well. The only thing I’ve seen so far with the ceramic is just if you’re trying to get one person to lift that out of a truck, you might need two people. But if you’re not, then they’re pretty much all manageable.
Yeah, for sure. As long as you’re not dealing with cracks that are three inches deep.
That’s right.
Yeah, it doesn’t seem like you guys have any of those here today.
And you’ve had, previously, a flip-up model with the handle you pull, right?
That’s correct, spot onto the ground.
Yeah. Is this a big improvement over that?
It’s a massive improvement. The reason is you can go continuously without releasing the shots, so you can go until the tray is full, which means that if you’re working on a large area, it makes a big difference. It’s a big productivity change.
Yeah, it is. It’s definitely worth the money that we’ve paid for it. We don’t use the other ones anymore; they just stay in the shop.
Yeah, so these are a lot faster too, because you don’t have to slow down how fast you walk.
That’s right. The faster you walk, the faster it cleans. I mean, the other ones did the job; these pick up better.
Right, yeah, you’re missing less. You don’t have to go over a second time.
And what happens with these that I find the most important is, with the other version, once the magnet is full, then you lose a lot of shots—a lot of shots stay behind, which means you have to go for a second pass. With this, the magnet is always empty, which is much better. It gives you more pulling power rather than holding power.
Absolutely, absolutely. You spend most of your power pulling the shot out of the floor rather than just holding it onto your magnet.
Exactly, and then having to dump it yourself. No, it’s a great unit.

Get a first-person view of how easy the Gamma is to operate on a shotblasting site, having features like the clutched drive wheels and front caster wheels with sealed precision bearings makes operating the Gamma shot blast magnet incredibly smooth.
All right, so here is our new and improved Gamma magnetic sweeper. So this thing and the Quantum—so this shares the same chassis. They are both initially based on our Fission magnet, which has been out forever. The difference between this and the Fission is that it’s completely freewheeling—no tipping it onto the back wheels to steer. It’s got the caster wheel up front, much like the Atmos and the Photon do. So what that obviously gives you is just any kind of maneuverability you want.
This thing and the Quantum both now share the drive hubs that are on the other two larger models, the Atmos and the Photon. So these drive hubs allow you to come right up in a corner like this. You see, the outside wheel will turn while the inside wheel turns backwards for perfect zero-point turns. And then while you turn, if you watch the drum, it’s still getting cleaned off. So just by turning the unit, you’re cleaning that drum off, keeping the magnet cleaned out, which gives you more power.
So this unit is the ceramic-powered version of the Quantum, and what that’s going to get you is a lighter price tag and a heavier weight. So this thing weighs, I believe, 36-ish pounds—heavier than the Quantum—but it’s a lot cheaper. And another thing you’re kind of losing with the ceramic over a rare earth is, if you notice on the chassis of this thing, on the black chassis, there are two blue indicators.
Those indicators are going to tell you where to position the magnet over a crack, like I’m doing right now, because that’s the strongest point of the magnet. And if you’ve got those indicators over the crack, that’s where you’re going to get your maximum power. That’s where you’re going to get your one and a quarter pulling depth. So you get a little less pickup power with this thing. It loses half an inch in pulling depth compared to rare earth, and, you know, it’s concentrated in two points rather than all the way across like the others are.
But everyone we’ve talked to today—the crew boss, everybody like that—they haven’t seemed to care, ceramic versus rare earth. They don’t really mind the weight. And performance-wise, they say if you didn’t know any different, you wouldn’t notice. If someone told you one was ceramic versus rare earth, then there’s no problem.
So like I said, this is based on the Fission. It’s got the same clean-off debris pan that the others do. This thing holds, um, 42 pounds a shot. So, 42 pounds a shot, 24-inch sweeping width with the new clutch drive wheels. Nice new black paint job and blue indicators.
It’s a pretty good unit if you’re looking to save a bit of money compared to rare earth units, and that’s your guy.

The Gamma continuous discharge magnet makes shot clean-up a breeze saving money and time over using normal magnetic sweepers. Being able to operate at full lifting capacity all the time reduces the need to slow down while sweeping to avoid missing shot, the Gamma won’t start leaving shot behind until the 42lb capacity of the debris tray is reached and starts spilling over. At that point instead of dumping and sweeping up your collected shot you can remove the debris tray to easily transfer your collected shot back into the machine.
