Many commercial and industrial facilities, construction sites, landfills, equine facilities and disaster relief workers have a need to eliminate flat tires on vehicles. The cost, interruptions, and delays that flat tires cause create the need for the use of a magnetic sweeper and the YAK Front Mounted UTV Magnetic Sweeper was designed specifically to pick up and remove debris that causes flat tires such as nails, screws, wire, discarded pieces of metal from fabrication activities, bolts, nuts, pins, screw drivers, wrenches, etc.
The YAK utilizes permanently charged C8 Ceramic Magnets to provide a strong magnetic field with a maximum lifting height of 7 1/2” using a two and a half inch nail.
The YAK Front Mounted UTV Magnetic Sweeper will pick up a 2 ½” nail when the bottom of the magnet is 7 1/2” off the ground providing plenty of pickup power performance in dirt and gravel and when operating on a moving UTV. In speed tests the YAK reliably picks up 2 ½” nails at 13kph, with the sweeping height set at 2 ½” off the ground.
Sweeping height on the YAK Front Mounted UTV Magnetic Sweeper is adjustable from 1 to 4 inches, in half inch increments, to accommodate any conditions by adjusting the caster wheels up or down.
This is a manual process, done by moving the bolt hole position of the caster, but it can be done in several minutes if needed and most users will generally set the sweeping height once to fit their site conditions and leave it at that height.
The “Wrap Around” magnet design ensures debris never gets wiped off the bottom of the magnet in grass or off road dirty and bumpy conditions.
The “Wrap Around” feature is an essential design feature if you will be using the magnetic sweeper in grass or dirt conditions and is one of the key features that make the YAK front mount magnetic sweeper truly off-road capable.
The YAK Front Mounted UTV Magnetic Sweeper is compact in size and is balanced to perfectly fit a UTV to allow normal UTV manoeuvering. For further information see the CAD section for CAD drawings showing overall dimensions of the YAK.
Just lower the YAK onto its casters using your UTV winch or other lifting device to start sweeping. The off-road flat-proof 10” x 3” casters ensure a consistent height off the ground is maintained when sweeping and also take the weight off the front of the UTV and allow normal UTV manoeuvering.
To clean off the YAK front mount magnetic sweeper when full of debris, just raise the magnet using your UTV winch or other lifting device, and push down on the clean off handle on the side of the unit.
The YAK comes standard with a Debris Release Lever clean off system. A quick pull on the handle rotates the magnet inside the covered lid resulting in the debris dropping to the ground. Clean off takes only seconds. To make clean off even easier, a double handled orange poly debris catcher is provided to put under the magnet during clean off, which can then catch the debris and be used to dump the debris into a garbage bin.

Mounting a magnetic sweeper like the Yak to the front of a vehicle has many benefits, it is easier to see where the sweeper is going and if debris is getting collected, it is easier to maneuver, and most importantly it protects the tires of the vehicle it is attached to when sweeping. The Region of Waterloo bought a Yak last year to replace their old tow behind magnet from a competitor for these reasons and more. They found the tow behind magnet was too strenuous to clean off, it wasn’t easily adjustable, so it bottomed out often, constantly got flat tires, and was difficult for new hires to reverse, which led to it being parked for years. The Operations Manager mentioned that the new Yak Front Mounted Magnet easily mounted on their Kubota’s snowplow system which allows easy height control via the hydraulics. It also has the power to pick up metal while sweeping higher than their older sweeper so it can travel everywhere in the facility without ground clearance being an issue. The Yak is also preferred from a health and safety perspective, it is easier to clean off, has fewer pinch points, and creates a cleaner overall environment for visiting customers and staff alike.

Magnetic Sweeping in Landfill Tipping Point
Region of Waterloo landfill. We’ve got the Yak on the front of another Kubota using our new snowplow mount system. These guys have been using this thing—they bought it last fall—and they’re just using it to maintain roads and clear out areas where customers drive their vehicles. When customers come in to drop off waste, they don’t like to get flat tires.
So these guys are just taking us up to the tipping point on the landfill and they’re just showing us a typical route they would do to clean up, so the trucks driving around don’t get flats. Customers obviously aren’t coming up here, but there are trucks running up and down here all day, and they don’t want to get flat tires either.
This thing was empty when we were down at the shop, and I can see a bunch of stuff getting collected already. This is a really handy unit to have on site, just because you can engage and disengage it very easily using the snowplow mounts, because the snowplow has hydraulic control. And because of the wraparound function on the Yak, you can drive through this rough terrain and not have to worry too much about hitting the ground, because all of the collected metal will just get swept to the back of the magnet housing and you won’t lose it.
So here’s what we’ve collected so far just running once up the access road. You see how easy it is to clean off the Yak—just pull down those two teeth, and there—looks like there’s still a little bit hanging on. There’s a screw there still hanging on, but that’s quite a lot for just driving up the road once, right? Well, not even down, just up. Well, just up.
Yak Front Mount Magnet Cleaning Residential Dumping Area
So here’s the, uh, residential section of the Waterford Regional Landfill. So these guys are running around here to prevent any customers coming in who might have just yard waste to throw out from this time of year, cleaning up in the spring. They’re coming in here, they’re going to back in on the gravel or onto the dirt there, and they don’t want to get any flat tires just from visiting the dump to throw out their stuff.
So the section behind us here is an area where they get rid of old pallets, and if you know anything about pallets, it’s they always break and they always leave nails all over the place. So customers have free rein to drive over this and then get a flat tire on their vehicle and not notice till they get home and then call and complain. So that’s why these guys get out here and clean it up using the Blue Streak magnet.
We just went and saw one of their old magnets, and it’s a trailer unit from one of our competitors. They had a number of issues with it, including it had no useful way to adjust the height, it was too difficult to clean off, it constantly got flat tires due to small little wheels that aren’t very heavy-duty, and it was just generally too low to roam around and go up to the top of the yard where we just were.
So because of that, they picked this thing. It’s a lot easier to clean off, safer on the back, safer on the hands, less dangerous, you won’t pinch your fingers. So this thing is just an easier option and way easier to operate. You don’t have to know how to back up a trailer, you just drive it around, and it protects the tires on the vehicle just as well while you drive.
So these guys run this thing about once a week just to keep some maintenance going on the areas and keep their customers safe as well as their own vehicles. Now, in the top section where we just were, it’s mostly heavy trucks and heavy machinery going up there, so you’re less likely to get a flat tire than on a light-duty truck like your normal pickups. But down here is where residential customers and contractors come in with their trucks, and nails and small debris like that are more than enough to give a flat tire to a regular pickup.
So that’s why these guys are out here cleaning it up, keeping it safe, and this thing is a big improvement over the previous magnet they used to use. Over here is the pallet storage section, and the other side is like shingles and drywall and that sort of thing, so you’re going to get all kinds of screws and nails holding the pallets together in the drywall. So we’re going to clean off the magnet and then run into the section with the pallets and the drywall and see what’s just in there on one pass.
So you just dumped the magnet off and we’re going to go through this section with all the pallets, because obviously pallets break and you get nails all over the place. So we’re going to run through here just on one pass and see what we can collect. I can hear it clicking up to the magnet already, so we should have something. Looks like he set it a little high, though, so even with the magnet set at, it looks like almost five inches off the ground, it’s picking up that little piece of wood with some nails sticking out of it. That’s a flat tire waiting to happen because it’s got a nice flat base for you to run over and then the nails sticking straight up.
Now it’s time—seemingly, it would shake off in there. It might, but I’m glad it picked that up. Yeah, is that a plant? Did you guys put it in there? No, that was already there. What’s that? You didn’t put it there? No, no, that’s good that it picked that up. So this thing, they said, is a lot easier to clean off versus their older one, because you’re pushing down instead of lifting up really low to the ground, and there’s a little safety latch there to make sure you don’t get this thing in the forehead on the way out. Got nails.
But, yeah, back up a little bit. We’ll see what he got. There’s just a little pile of nails. That big board there looks like the one that’s going to give you a flat, though, right? It’s sticking straight up.
This bracket system allows owners of a Kubota UTV with the Kubota V5293A & V5293B 4 point hitch and power unit system to easily attach the Yak magnetic sweeper. This grants the user hydraulic control over the height of the Yak magnet so it can be lifted out of the way if not being used. This bracket makes mounting a Yak to a UTV a very simple job with no fabrication required.
The Kubota Yak Bracket allows for easy installation with no fabrication necessary . Pulling a couple pins and lining up some lugs is all that is required to hook the Yak to a Kubota snow plow system
So this is the mid bracket for the Kubota-to-Yak system. This comes off the front of the Kubota snow plow and then just pins into the bracket that’s on the back of the Yak, so you can leave that on the Yak magnet. Then you’ve got your Kubota snowplow system here that will just key into those lugs on the bracket for the Yak. So the snowplow mount will just key into these lugs, and then you drop your pins on their system into our bracket and it’ll all fit together.
So when you’ve got your mid bracket onto the Yak magnet, because there’s a receiving bracket on the Yak and then there’s the mid mount that connects the Yak to the Kubota system, you can just use your lift arms on the Kubota to just drive into it and hook it up. So you see the lugs there on the front of the Yak get hooked into by this Kubota snowplow system. So with a little bit of assistance there, you just hit those lugs into the keys on the Kubota mount—the Kubota snowplow system—and then you just put the two pins that are on the Kubota snowplow mount. Just pop those two pins in and you’re connected.
It’s the disconnection of the new Kubota-to-Yak mounting bracket in front of the UTVs. Pull your two hands on the Kubota snowplow mount, drop down with your arms, and back out.
