The Oblast Protected Fork Mounted Magnetic Sweeper is a 52” inch wide powerful magnetic sweeper for forklifts that is unique because of its ground strike protection features. There’s plenty of fork mounted magnetic sweepers out there but the one thing you never, if rarely, see is one that won’t get damaged if it hits the ground. And yet a fork mounted magnet can hit the ground if the forklift operator isn’t paying attention. All it takes is the ground out front to start rising, or the back wheels to go over a bump and because of the distance between the forklift wheels and the magnet, the magnet can all of a sudden strike the ground.
The OBLAST addresses this issue with a rounded bottom front to back so no edge can “catch” the ground, an oversized steel frame that holds the stainless steel debris pan so that it won’t get bent, nesting of the debris pan immediately adjacent to the magnet so that it is supported and won’t bend if scuffed sideways, rounded bent debris pan sides so that once again there is no hard edge to “catch” the ground”, generally solid steel and stainless steel construction, and a big 10.5” inch maximum pickup height so that the magnet can be operated a bit higher when picking up debris so there is less chance of hitting the ground.

The Oblast Protected Fork Mounted Magnetic Sweeper has rounded bottom and sides to prevent damage if the magnet strikes the ground during operation.
The rounded bottom reduces the width of the bottom flat section and therefore limits inadvertent contact of the bottom with the ground as forklift wheel level positions change relative to the magnet level. This prevents magnet contact with ground as much as possible and if contact is made there are no sharp corners to “dig into” or “catch” on the ground, the magnet simply “scuffs” the surface alerting the operator to raise the magnet.
For further information see the CAD section showing the overall dimensions and profile of the OBLAST.
The OBLAST only comes in one 52” inch magnet size. The magnet itself measures 6” inches Wide x 4” inches High x 52” inches Long.
The Oblast Protected Fork Mounted Magnetic Sweeper was kept to just one size because this fits most “normal” forklifts in use. The 52” inch width is just wider than the forklift width including the forklift wheels to ensure the area directly in front of the forklift wheels is swept as you drive.
The 7” inch wide and 3.375” inch high fork pockets on the OBLAST are on 24” inch centers. There are no FIT Guidelines for the OBLAST, if your forklift forks will accommodate these dimensions, the OBLAST will fit your forklift.
See the CAD section for these dimensions and overall dimensions.
How to connect the OBLAST magnetic sweeper to your forklift
The Oblast Protected Fork Mounted Magnetic Sweeper has a flip down stainless Steel Debris Pan for Easy Clean Off and long life.
Just lift the magnet over a bin or dumpster and flip the Debris Pan down and all the debris will fall off into the bin.
The Debris Pan is very rigid and is not held up by the main magnet therefore it does not reduce main magnet effectiveness.
There are UHMW bushings on the rotating stainless steel Debris Pan for long life and a solid feel.
We’re demonstrating the clean-off feature on the Oblast magnetic sweeper. Each side of the sweeper houses release handles that you push down on to flip the tray out to get the debris to fall off. We’re going to demonstrate here. Just going to throw some metal debris on there. You’re going to push down on the handle over here, and there—the magnets cleaned off. So we’ve just ended up with a little bit of stuff here to demonstrate how it works, but you want to go and flip that back up. This tray pivots from end to end on the stainless steel tube. It also has a stainless steel tray on the bottom, and it’s connected by these pieces here on the ends that make it very rigid. So when you’re pushing down on this, the other end moves exactly with the end that you’re pushing on, so that you won’t have a really flimsy debris tray. I’ve seen some other models where if you push on the release tray, the whole tray peels out almost a half an inch or an inch before the other end starts moving.
One feature I also want to point out is that this debris tray is held up by its own magnets. A lot of debris trays, what they’ll do is they’ll weld a steel bar into the stainless steel pan on the bottom, and that steel bar will stick to your main magnet. The problem with that is, as soon as you get a piece of steel stuck to this magnet, that magnet is now focused on that piece of steel that’s holding this tray up rather than another magnet that’s stuck to something else. It does not distract the magnetic field from the main magnet. So, with our design, we’ve got these rare earth magnets on the outside here to stick to the handles, and what that does is it makes sure there’s absolutely no interference from other metal in the debris-stripping tray taking power away from your magnet.
The OBLAST forklift magnetic sweeper picks up ferrous metal debris of all types including nails, screws, nuts, washers, railway spikes, tent pegs, lag screws, wrenches, screw drivers, scrap fabrication pieces.
Usually if you think you have a debris problem, the problem is actually much greater than you think.
A: N42 1” x 2” x ½” rare earth magnet attaches to steel release handle on each side to hold debris pan in up position
B: 10-gauge (0.134”) thick 304 stainless steel angled debris tray ends ensures debris can’t slide up the side and onto the magnet during clean off
C: Close fit between magnet housing and debris pan ensures debris pan is supported during lateral movements and can’t get bent
A: 0.25” (1/4”) thick steel magnet top
B: N42 1” x 2” x ½” rare earth magnet
C: 16-gauge (0.060”) thick stainless steel magnet housing
D: 0.375” (3/8”) thick steel debris tray connection points
E: UHMW bushing on debris pan pivot point
A: Rounded debris pan from front to back to prevent damage if the ground is hit
B: Steel release handle
C: Bent rounded bottom sides of debris pan to prevent damage during lateral scuffing movements
The OBLAST will pick up a 2.5” inch nail when the bottom of the magnet is 10.5” inches off the ground providing plenty of pickup power performance in dirt and gravel and when operating on moving forklifts. To maximize performance we recommend setting sweeping height at 2” to 6” inches in most situations. The lower the better to increase performance.
The Oblast Protected Fork Mounted Magnetic Sweeper uses permanently charged grade C8 magnets that will never need to be recharged. Power will never decrease, ensuring years of use.
The OBLAST magnet is completely enclosed within the stainless steel magnet housing. The magnet inside the housing is 6” inches wide and 4” inches high and 52” inches long, unspaced.
Many fork pocket designs have the threaded rod push directly down on the forklift forks until the fork is touching the top of the magnet and the rod is visible in the middle of the fork pocket.
The problem with these designs are that you are fighting gravity. In these designs the fork is holding the weight by pushing up on a single point, which is the threaded rod. As a result you see many threaded rods that are bent as they get jostled around during operation and under the load they bend.
With the OBLAST’s upward clamping fork pockets, gravity is not being fought, it is being used. When you pick the OBLAST up with the forklift forks, before tightening the clamps on the fork pockets, the fork is holding the weight by pushing up on the entire top of the fork pocket, so there is a solid connection between the forks and the fork pockets, with a large surface area between the forks and the fork pockets, this reduces sliding movements and ensures a solid connection. By tightening the fork pocket clamps you make that connection even more secure.
This design costs a bit more to manufacture but it’s the safest and the best and therefore the right thing to do.
