Bluestreak Equipment offers bolt on solutions to fit a magnet onto most terminal tractors. Most Kalmar, Ottawa, Autocar and other popular spotter trucks are compatible with Bumper Bracket A allowing a hanging magnet sweeper to bolt onto a shunt truck with no fabrication. The Wrasse hanging magnetic bar is designed for use on “flat terrain”. It is extremely versatile because it comes in many different sizes, in terms of strength and width. The Wrasse hanging magnet bars are available in widths from 26” – 98” inches and in 3 different magnet housing sizes: 2” x 5” inches, 3” x 3” inches, and 4.5” x 4.5” inches each level of housing size offers more magnetic strength than the previous.
The Wrasse can hang from almost any piece of equipment if the ground the vehicle traverses is fairly even so that the magnet bar doesn’t hit the ground all the time which can cause damage to the housing. The Wrasse hanging magnet bar functions very well at allowing the equipment operators to clean environments while they do their normal tasks.
There are also optional Quick Clean Off Sleeves available for the Wrasse. A PVC Quick Clean Off Sleeve is available for the 3″x 3″ inch and 4.5″ x 4.5″ inch models which makes cleaning debris off the magnet bar easy. A Heavy-Duty Aluminum Quick Clean Off Sleeve is available for some 4.5” x 4.5” inch sweeping widths, this sleeve also assists in cleaning debris from the magnet and increases the durability of the sweeper.

The PYR hanging magnet was designed for flat terrain and “on road” type uses where not much ground strike prevention is needed. “On road” type bump wheels are provided on the ends to eliminate magnet strikes due to occasional potholes and speed bump type obstacles.
Choose from 2 different models with different magnet strengths, and 6 different magnet lengths from 3 to 8 feet, to get the perfect setup for your application.

With 10” inch x 3” inch wide flat proof Bumper wheels. The EIGER was designed for those slightly more off-road surfaces with more uneven surfaces such as dirt and gravel where potholes and bumps exist.

With outdoor rated IP65 12-volt DC actuators rated at 562 lbs each and 7.5” inches of up and down movement for remote controlled raising and lowering of magnet from raised travelling to lowered sweeping position.

The Nyx Heavy Duty Hanging Magnetic Sweeper is built to endure heavy duty terrain while clearing metal debris. An Aluminum quick clean off sleeve protects the magnet housing from impacts and crush forces and allows debris to be removed from the magnetic field quickly and easily.
The Nyx also features 10.5” x 3.25” inch Carlisle flat free wheels with UHMW bushings replacing standard ball bearings for greater impact resistance and smooth operation. These wheels will touch down on terrain changes before the clean off sleeve so the Nyx can glide over obstacles rather than strike the ground.
A 4.5” x 4.5” inch permanently charged C8 magnet housing allows the Nyx to pull a 2.5” inch 8 penny nail from up to 8.25” inches off the ground. I often see yard truck magnets mounted too high to be effective. Make sure you’re hanging the magnet low enough given the strength of the magnet you have. Look at the magnet’s maximum pickup height, and ensure you hang it no more than about half of that height so that it has maximum effectiveness and works while your yard truck is moving.

In commercial environments one of the biggest problems is getting someone to clean the magnet off. No one wants to do it, but if you don’t do it the effectiveness of your magnet decreases as more debris gets stuck to it. So spend the extra money for a magnet that has a quick and easy clean off solution that people won’t mind using.

Trucks obviously have suspension and they absorb bumps but when they do, the height of the truck from the ground changes, and therefore any hanging magnet can hit the ground. And the rougher the ground, the more likely this is. So what’s going to prevent the magnet from hitting the ground if your truck suspension compresses 4 inches, or if it does what will protect the magnet? It’s something to consider when selecting a hanging magnet.
Make sure the magnet strength matches the type of debris you expect to be picking up. If you want to pick up heavy metal debris a light weight small magnet probably won’t do the job.
A magnet may work very well at picking up debris, but how easy is it to clean off? Think through how you would clean the magnet off step by step. Make sure it makes sense to you and your situation. We try and do this for you so that clean off isn’t a difficult or time-consuming task, but some manufacturers don’t. Pay attention to the details of how this will work from start to finish, right up to the point of getting the debris in the garbage or scrap bin.
You are not going to be cleaning your magnet off constantly, so it’s important that when your magnet does pick up a nail or screw that the magnet secures the debris so that it won’t fall off if the magnet is suddenly shaken because of a bump or if the bottom of the magnet hits the ground and the debris is wiped backward on the magnet. The last thing you want is for the debris to fall off again. Make sure your magnet has some feature like our “Wrap Around Feature”, it not only makes sure debris doesn’t get wiped off the bottom of the magnet, it makes the debris holding capacity higher and you’ll find in practice that most of your debris ends up on the side of your magnet not the bottom of it. And that’s a good indication to you why we have this feature.
We want to make sure our products meet your expectations. Therefore, make sure you look at our “maximum lifting height” specifications for each magnet option. We bench test every one of our magnetic sweeper models to determine their maximum lifting height of a two-and-a-half-inch standard nail. Everyone knows what a two-and-a-half-inch nail looks like which is why we use this standard measure of magnet strength and it will give you a very good idea of magnet performance.
The rougher, dirtier terrain your Yard Truck operates in the stronger the magnet your likely going to want, because the magnet will have to be set higher to avoid constantly hitting the ground. The magnet will also need to pick up debris through some dirt therefore you need a stronger magnet. The rougher the terrain that exists because of things like bumps and pot holes, more you will want or favor a magnet that has some protection built in to the design to either deal with the abuse of hitting the ground or being able to move out of the way when it does hit the ground to prevent damage.

Shunt Trucks or Yard Trucks are really a simplified version of a semi truck you see on the road everyday. They are used to move truck trailers on location around truck yards and distribution terminals or short distances from one location to another.
Because these truck yards and distribution terminals usually have a lot debris because of all the truck traffic and the unloading and loading of goods onto and off trucks, the Shunt trucks are usually fitted with a magnet to pick up the debris since it traverses the full scope of the yard already. This keeps flat tires to a minimum.
If you have a flat steel bumper as there is on many commercial shunt and yard trucks as shown in the picture to the left you can mount one of our hanging magnetic sweepers using Bumper Mount Bracket A and a Hanging Bracket. There are three different Hanging Brackets; A, B and C. Hanging Bracket B is shown in the picture to the left with the Eiger 86 4.5×4.5 magnetic sweeper, but the Hanging Bracket selection is based on the type and length of magnetic sweeper chosen. The ISO comes standard with a Quick Clean Off Sleeve. And you can purchase an optional Quick Clean Off Sleeve for the strongest Wrasse model (the 4.5″ x 4.5″).
The new Quick Clean Off Sleeve design is made from extruded PVC and infected molded PVC end caps.
Just slide the sleeve off and all the debris falls off on the one side.
