Pick up metal debris before you drive over it.
Why buy a Front Mount Magnet.
The "Pros" to buying a front mount
The obvious reason to buy a front mount magnet is so that you don’t have to run over the debris before you pick it up with the magnet. In many cases where the debris is heavy and of the type that will definitely cause flat tires almost immediately, a front mount magnet becomes the only real choice.
There are also other applications where the debris will cause a flat tire given some sweeping time, and in these circumstances, it also becomes a very strong reason to consider a front mount magnet. In fact, if we could, it would always be advisable to put the magnet ahead of us or the vehicle when sweeping for metal debris. If we could, why not?
Another reason for buying a front mount magnet is that they are sort of like hanging magnets to some degree. That is, they can stay mounted, and be used more, while performing other duties. This is rarely the case with a tow behind magnet.
So the question is why not? That is, why in many cases do we not buy and use front mount magnets? Well, to be fully informed, read the next section, on what you give up when you buy a front mount.
What you give up when you buy a Front Mount Magnet
3 Cons to buying a Front Mount
Everything has pros and cons, so let’s discuss the “cons” of a front mount magnet. That is what you give up when you buy one.
1
Well, the first thing you give up is more money. Generally front mount magnets are a bit more expensive than other magnets of the same strength. This is because it generally costs a bit more to mount them to a vehicle.
2
The second thing you give up is some magnet strength. It’s simply not possible to mount as big of a mass (kg) magnet on the front of a vehicle as it is to put it on a trailer and tow it. Weight is a concern with front mount magnets. That weight affects the size of magnet that is possible for front mount magnet designs. It’s possible to keep magnet strength high, and weight lower, by substituting ceramic magnets with rare earth magnets to a degree, but this has the other effect of increasing cost, and giving up more money.
3
The third thing you give up is ease of mounting and de-mounting. Let’s face it, it’s simply easier to hook up a trailer than it is to mount and de-mount a front mount sweeper.
There you have it. Those are the three “CONS” of buying a front mount magnet. It is these three disadvantages that we have focused on addressing when designing our front mount magnets.

Consider how your vehicle handles
How your vehicle handles with the front mount magnet on the vehicle is another factor worth investigating. Look at both how the vehicle handles when sweeping with the magnet, and how the vehicle handles when the magnet is lifted and not sweeping.
The better the vehicle handles in both of these circumstances, the more likely you are to leave it permanently mounted, which in turn indicates the amount you will likely use the magnet.
