The Yacare is a powerful off road tow behind magnetic sweeper with a Spring Assisted Debris Release System that makes cleaning off the magnet easy. Even when the magnet is heavily loaded with metal debris it has picked up, cleaning it off can be done in seconds without much effort or bending over.
The Yacare magnetic sweeper is built to stand up to rough off road conditions with solid steel construction, protective steel lid that encloses the magnet, height adjustability, “Wrap Around” feature, torsion ride suspension to smooth out terrain, and Carlisle 15” x 6.5” flat proof tires mounted to heavy duty 5-bolt hub and spindle assemblies.
The Yacare’s 72 inch sweeping width, lighter tongue weight and overall slim profile makes it a good choice for towing behind ATV’s, UTV’s, or small tractors on rough terrain. It is possible to tow the Yacare behind a pickup truck but it may not be visible to the driver of the vehicle due to it’s
smaller size.

The Yacare Off-Road Tow Behind Magnetic Sweeper is packed with features to make the magnet more efficient in offroad conditions. The torsion ride suspension system has a progressive spring rate to prevent the magnet from bottoming out and 5-bolt hub and spindle assemblies paired with 15” x 6.5” Carlisle flat free wheels to be able to take more impacts offroad. The suspension system takes the stress out of the chassis of the magnet for more longevity and makes the magnet behave better when towing through tough terrain.
We have now updated the Yacare magnet just to make it a little more off-road friendly. So, like our Cayman and Art, there have just been a couple of little tweaks to an existing design to make it more suitable for actual off-road use, rather than “off-road use” like a gravel lot.
What that is, is we have a new suspension system; that’s the main component. So, this is a torsion ride system. It’s shared between the three sweepers. You’re probably thinking, “Well, you know, they all weigh different amounts. Why do you have the same suspension system?” Well, it’s all progressive. So, it’s basically like a square-in-a-circle rubber thing, and the more it twists, the more resistance there is. So, it’s like a square rubber hole with a square in it. The more it twists, the harder it is to twist, more so.
This magnet will ride on the top one or two inches of travel, like that. Then the Cayman, which weighs about 800 lbs, will ride on the next little bit, and then the Yard Park’s about 1,100 lbs; it’ll ride the next little bit of travel. So, you’ve got a progressive spring rate, basically, so it can work on all three sweepers.
So, we just went to the heights of “Trash Mountain” over there, all the way to the pit, and then we’ve gone to, I don’t know, “Garbage Hill” over there. So, we went to the two areas, and they’re all rutted out like crazy ’cause there’s big trucks going around. It’s November, it’s been raining, so there’s mud—as you can see on the sweeper—and we’re in this Gator here, and it’s going, you know, 15 km an hour at least, and it’s not a problem.
On the older models that didn’t have this suspension, this thing would be rocking and pulling, and what results from that is this piece here becomes your suspension. So, you know, the thing is bouncing up and down, it’s only got so much flex on the ball, and when the weight comes down, it’s kind of putting torque on this big tongue here. So, by adding the suspension, you now get this to take the brunt like it’s supposed to, and the rest of the sweeper gets to have less stress on it.
And, to go along with that, because we’re putting all this extra torque on the wheels, this thing now has the five-bolt hub system, which has an actual spindle and hub instead of just an axle with a little tiny wheel bearing on it, like a lawnmower would have. So, it’s just a beefier system. New flat-proof wheels are on here; they’re urethane filled. They’re 15″ x 6.5″, and your adjustable sweeping height is between 2 and 5 inches. So, you can raise or lower this. You’re going to get variability now that there’s suspension on it, so you set it at 2, you might end up at an inch, but that’s okay because this magnet has a wraparound function. So, if you do end up touching the ground with anything, the collected debris will just snap around to the back because the magnet touches the back of the stainless steel pan, so if you hit anything, it just snaps back around and you’re good.
What else is new—we have a bunch of reinforcements on the tongue, so the attachment from the tongue to the sweeper frame is triangulated now, so it’s just a little bit stronger, so there’s less chance of anything breaking. And, yeah, so you got new suspension, new hubs, new wheels, reinforced frame, same old magnet, same old song—works just as well. We picked up like 10 lbs of nails in a span of 20 minutes here ’cause we’re at a dump and, you know, there’s stuff here. People drive in and out; the garbage guys get flat tires—they’re not happy. Customers get flat tires—they’re not happy. So, you come out, clean it up, this is a nice, easy way to do it. You sit in the Gator—if it had heat, you’d have heat; if it had air conditioning, you’d have air conditioning, but we’re not that lucky today, so we’re cold.
But, on the front of it, it’s got an adjustable height tongue, so you can use it on bigger trucks or smaller ones.
Greg Crowe at Eco Recycling Inc was the reason the Yacare was updated with the new wheels, hub, suspension parts, and frame reinforcements. After experiencing some issues towing the older version of the Yacare he had some issues with it which we resolved with the updates. Greg submitted this video of the upgraded Yacare working on his jobsite to show how it works in offroad conditions where nails are scattered around from recycled shingles.
Hi, my name is Greg Crowe. I’m one of the managers here at Eco Recycling in St. Louis, Missouri. We recycle concrete, asphalt, along with asphalt shingles. As you can imagine, one of the problems we run into with the shingles is the nails. We were having nails drag all over our yard, around the road in our yard. We were getting complaints from customers as well as employees about flat tires, so we needed to eliminate that problem.
We did some research and came across Blue Streak Equipment out of Ontario, Canada. After consulting with them, we purchased one of their products, the Yacare Tow magnet, and started using it. It eliminated our problem, much to our delight. But after a couple months, we noticed what we thought were a couple of design flaws in the product. We kept burning up the bearings in the wheels, I think because of the weight of the magnet, and so we had to keep replacing those. Then also, the tow bar had support on top, but where it connected to the magnet frame there was no support underneath it, and it consequently cracked away from the frame.
So I took some pictures of these problems and sent them to Blue Streak Equipment, and they promptly got back to me—so great customer service on their part. They said that they were going to redesign the magnet and take care of these issues. Fast forward several months, they did redesign it and, much to our delight, they sent us the new updated magnet at no charge to us. We began using this new one with the updated features and are very pleased with it.
So let’s go take a look at these updated features on this magnet. Here we are with the updated version of the Yacare Tow magnet from Blue Streak Equipment. Let’s take a look at those upgrades. On the original model, it was missing this gusset support down here on the tow bar, and that’s where we had our problem. The tow bar cracked away from the frame because of the weight of this magnet—it’s a very heavy-duty magnet—and through the potholes, the bouncing cracked away from the frame here. So they added this gusset, gives it much more support, very noticeable as we tow behind it now. It’s a much more stable ride.
Let’s take a look at the new tires and suspension. They beefed up the suspension back here. They added these heavy-duty tires, and you can see the five studs that connect it to the wheel hubs. Before, it was just a small shaft and the tires were smaller, with just a small bearing that it would slide over and stay in place with a pin. That’s where we had the problem, with those bearings kept burning up, and this new design with these new tires and suspension has eliminated that problem.
Okay, we have the Yacare magnet hooked up and we’re going to go out and see what it does.
Okay, we’ve made several passes up and down our main road. Let’s see what we picked up. Okay, let’s take a look. This has been about a week since we’ve run this because of the weather, but as you can see, quite a bit of nails. This was done in front of our shingles area, so you can imagine what that would do to our customer and employee vehicles if we didn’t have this magnet.
Once again, hats off to Blue Streak Equipment of Ontario, Canada, for their great customer service, standing behind their products. You don’t find a lot of companies today that will do that. They’ve been a pleasure to work with, so if you are in the market for any kind of magnetic equipment, I would highly recommend getting in touch with Blue Streak Equipment, and they can definitely help you out. Thanks, Blue Streak.
The Yacare is a 72″ wide off road magnetic sweeper built for durability with a solid 0.125″ thick steel rear frame tube, 16 gauge protective steel lid around the magnet, 14 gauge stainless steel bottom and inset 15″ x 6.5″ flat proof Carlisle wheels with 5-bolt hub and spindle assemblies. View the CAD drawings for more details on construction materials.
The Yacare has the power to pick up metal debris over rough, uneven terrain where the ground height can be a greater distance from the magnet. It uses permanently charged C8 Ceramic magnets that provide a strong magnetic field with a maximum lifting height of 9 ¾” using a 2 ½” nail. This means if the bottom of the magnet was 9 ¾” off the ground it could pick up a 2 ½” nail in a bench test at zero speed. This amount of power combined with the ability to adjust the sweeping height from 2 to 6 inches means that you can set the sweeping height higher if needed in rough conditions and the magnet will still be able to pick up debris. The torsion ride suspension system smooths out rough terrain and allows the magnet to be towed through rough terrain with less stress on the chassis and less torque transferred to the tow vehicles chassis.
A key operational feature of the Yacare Off Road Tow Behind Magnetic Sweeper is the Spring Assisted Debris Release System. Cleaning off the debris from the magnet only seconds even when the magnet is heavily packed with metal debris. To clean off the Yacare magnetic sweeper when full of debris, just push down on one of the spring assisted clean off handles located on either side of the unit. Pushing down on just one of the handles cleans the entire magnet off. This rotates the magnet inside the covered lid. The magnet will stick to the inside of the lid and stay in the “up” position while you get in your vehicle and pull the magnet ahead and away from the debris. You can then get out of your vehicle and lower the magnet again.
The Yacare Off Road Tow Behind Magnetic Sweeper is designed to be used around industrial facilities, farms, equine facilities, construction sites and landfills where there is a need to eliminate flat tires or reduce animal injury due to metal debris such as nails, screws, wire, discarded pieces of metal from fabrication activities, bolts, nuts, pins, screw drivers, wrenches. The Yarcare is designed to pick up this type of metal debris at these site conditions.
Debris doesn’t get wiped off!
One problem when going off road is that debris can be wiped off a magnet when long grass or dirt hits the bottom of the magnet.
But with the Yacare the “Wrap Around” magnet design ensures debris never gets wiped off the bottom of the magnet in grass or dirt conditions. Debris just slides to the edge of the bottom and snaps to the back of the magnet. It stays attached to the magnet until you release the debris with the Spring Assisted Debris Release Handles.
The Yacare Off Road Tow Behind Magnetic Sweeper comes standard with a Spring Assisted Debris Release Wystem. To clean off the Yacare magnetic sweeper when full of debris, just push down on one of the spring assisted clean off handles on either side of the unit.
The Yacare sweeping height is adjustable from 2 to 6 inches to accommodate rough conditions by turning the top link attachment on the rear wheels which adjusts the wheels up or down. Turning the top link offers “continuous” adjustment to achieve any sweeping height between 2 and 6 inches. The benefit of being able to quickly adjust the sweeping height via the top link is that you can always make sure you’ve got the magnet sweep height as low as you can without hitting the ground which greatly increases the speed you can travel at with the magnet and the magnet performance at picking up metal debris.
The Yacare Off Road Tow Behind Magnetic Sweeper uses permanently charged grade C8 magnets that never need to be recharged. Power will never decrease, ensuring years of use.
The magnets in the Yacare magnetic sweeper are completely enclosed in a stainless steel lid that takes all of the wear and tear of everyday use.
The Yacare Off Road Tow Behind Magnetic Sweeper will pick up a 2 and 1/2 inch nail when the bottom of the magnet is 9 and 3/4 inches off the ground providing plenty of pickup power performance in dirt, gravel and off road conditions.
To maximize performance, we recommend setting the sweeping height between 3 and 4 inches in most situations. Sweeping height is set by turning the top link attachment on the rear wheels which adjusts the wheels up or down.
The Yacare comes standard with off-road flat-proof 15” x 6.5” Carlisle wheels with 5-bolt hub and spindle wheel bearing assemblies. The wheels are located close behind the magnet ensures a consistent height off the ground is maintained when sweeping.
These wheels are for low-speed operation only and not meant for on road high speed use.
The wheels on the Yacare are inset from the end of the sweeper.
The inset wheels add to the Yacare’s off road capabilities by ensuring the magnet is less likely to bottom out as often in very rough conditions.
Built for Long Term Durability.
The Yacare’s magnet housing is protected inside a covered lid made of 16 gauge stainless steel.
In addition, the bottom pan (angled front portion, bottom portion, and vertical back portion) is 14 gauge stainless steel. The frame tube across the back of the Yacare is 0.125″ stainless steel and the bottom 2 inches are steel sides.
The benefit of this steel construction is the strength and durability that steel offers. The stainless steel also ensures that these areas never become magnetized. The benefit of this is that when you want to clean the debris off of the Yacare, all of the debris will fall off when the debris release lever is pulled. These pieces never get magnetized over time. This ensures a well functioning clean off mechanism.

The Yacare heavy duty magnetic sweeper works great to clean up nails and metal debris from the construction dumping area, this area is always contaminated with metal debris, causing flats on employee and customer vehicles. This Yacare is equipped with the DDR XL which makes a big difference when trying to collect embedded metal debris and leaves behind a groomed surface that also gives a visual indication of what areas have been swept already.
If you’ve got an access road you need to clear, this might be the one for you if you’re on a budget. This is our Yacare magnetic sweeper, now with suspension. So this is our torsion ride axle that we’re using on a couple different models. We’ve used it on the Aardvark and the Cayman, and it works pretty well for the Yacare. So it’s actually a progressive spring on there. While the Aardvark and the Cayman are very heavy compared to the Yacare, it still works because it just works in the first couple inches of travel, as opposed to the Aardvark RC and Cayman that work in the lower or later parts of the suspension travel.
So with our old system, you would never be able to run this fast with this magnet because it would just be bouncing around and pulling the UTV and that sort of thing. But now that we have this suspension system, it really makes a big difference for towability, especially if you’re just trying to get back to the site somewhere, or you’re just trying to get to the end. It’s going to make a big difference. You see that suspension working, it’s not bottoming out at all. I believe we have it set at about 4 inches off the ground right now, and it’s not going to bottom out because once it gets to the lower parts of that suspension, you’re going to be reaching the stiffer spring rate.
So on this road, this is obviously the road into a landfill. You see the guys out there dumping their day’s pickups. This place is bound to get all kinds of metal debris from nails to wires to anything like that, so having a magnet to kind of clean up these areas is going to be really beneficial to not only customers—well, customers don’t really go in here, but that guy is not going to find out he has a flat tire till tomorrow morning, and then he’s going to give somebody a call and say, “Hey, why is my tire flat? Why do you guys have nails everywhere?” So that’s what this thing is going to prevent.
You see it looks just about perfect behind that UTV. It’s, I believe, a 6 ft sweeping width, so 72 inches. And yeah, you see the suspension on the Gator working—why not have suspension on the trailer as well? So that thing is doing a great job of just tracking the ground, maintaining close to the sweeping height you set it at. It’s obviously going to vary because you’re bouncing, but that’s the name of the game when you have suspension, right? You can’t have a set ground clearance anymore, but if I was given a choice, I think I would pick having suspension and a variable sweep height versus not having suspension.
So this also has our new—well, not new—it has flat-proof wheels on it with a new hub assembly. So instead of the way it was before, where it was basically just an axle with a bearing, this now has a full spindle that’s shared with the Cayman and Aardvark. So if it works with the Cayman and Aardvark, it’s going to be really heavy-duty for something like this. The Yacare is about half the weight of the Aardvark. It’ll still pick up nails from a pretty good distance, so that’s why we have the 2 to 5 inch sweeping height adjustment. So if you’re in really rough terrain, you can set it up to 5 and get a lot more clearance to the ground rather than bottoming out all the time and still pick up lots of nails.
Trash Mountain with the new updated Yacare with our Carlisle Tough Master wheels—so these are urethane-filled flat-proof tires that are 15 x 6.5, I believe. Might be 6.25; anyways, those are a nicer, higher-quality tire with a better rim and hub assembly, so everything’s just a bit sturdier. So we’ve just basically reinforced everything. There are new welds or reinforcements on the bottom of the frame that connects the tongue to the frame, just to reinforce it a bit, because we just realized that people are using them in heavier-duty situations than we initially thought.
So we’ve got that suspension that takes all the stress out of the tongue, as well as a reinforced tongue. And then to go with our reinforced suspension and tongue, we’ve got better wheels and hubs. So we’ve got the debris digging rake down here, and we’re just doing a couple laps because we already went over this earlier with the Arebus on the front of a grader. So that’s our new DDR XL crank height adjustable; it used to just have pins that adjust the height. This has thicker 5/16 spring teeth on the front for better digging—more spring, way more, better. So that’s going to kick up anything that we missed with the Arebus, because at that point, with just those hanging magnets, you can only really get surface-level stuff. But once you get that big rake on there, you can get some more in-depth digging.
And you see we just went through that big puddle. You’d expect we lost all the magnets—or all the metal—on the back, but as you can see, wraparound function saves the day. Everything just snaps around to the back of the magnet, so that makes a huge difference when you’re sweeping in any kind of mud or dirt, soft sand, grass, that sort of thing, because it’s going to be hitting the metal on the magnet all the time.
Our Blue Streak magnets most times have wraparound, so that will retain any debris you’ve collected, even if you do hit the ground with the magnet or stuff gets wiped off by water in this case. So yep, 72-inch sweeping width, we’ve got new reinforced hubs, new reinforced tongue assembly, torsion ride suspension with a progressive suspension system. So the progressive spring rate is—you know, it’s just a torsion ride system, so the further you go down, the harder the spring gets. So the Yacare, Cayman, and Aardvark all share this part, and it only works because all three are different weights, but you’ve got progressive suspension. So this one rides in the first top 2 inches, the Cayman will ride the next little bit, and the Aardvark will ride the lowest on them all. But you’ve got more travel than you need. You’ve got maybe 2-3 inches of travel under normal conditions, and then on a bigger hit, it’ll go a little further, but the Aardvark and the Cayman will just ride lower in the system.
So that again takes a lot of stress out of the frame and all the rest of the chassis. Yeah, fall—look at her go, just bouncing along there. So normally you wouldn’t be able to go that fast through an area like this because of the old—you know, if you didn’t have suspension, that magnet’s always going to be pulling on the UTV. It’s hard on your hitch, it’s hard on your machine, just puts a lot of wear and strain on everything when it doesn’t need to happen if you’ve got suspension. So our new off-road series all has this now, and it’s going to work a lot nicer.
So after a nice jaunt up and down Trash Mountain, we went right to the peak up there, saw the sights, and came down right through the lumps and bumps. Got a little muddy on the magnet because that’s what we like to do, and we got our new suspension system working on this thing, which gives you a bit of travel. You’ve got maybe 2 inches if you hit it hard enough, and that’s going to allow you to pull this thing without it always yanking on the UTV and causing too much strain on the frame.
So with that being said, we went around this area here. We had the rakes down and left this nice kind of groomed pattern, but that also digs a lot of crap out of the ground that might be just under the surface, getting driven over by people every day. So we got that up and out of the ground, and we’re just going to clean it off and show you how much we collected in a span of 10 minutes or so. To clean it off—it’s on the page already—but you just pull this, separates the magnet, and then you can drive forward. And that’s quite a pile. I’m going to get in here and take a shot of that, and then we’ll show them again once we get it all in the bucket. But that’s a lot of junk.
All right, you want to go back out? So to clean this up, so we don’t have to cut our soft hands with this nice metal, we’ve got a Power Stick Pro here. And this is just an easy way to get everything off the ground. Doesn’t come with the magnet, but you know, you can buy one on the website while you’re there. And you don’t have to bend over, you don’t have to—because you can still do it in a section like this where it’s all muddy, you don’t have to be able to see every single piece of debris that you collected. So it makes it a lot easier, because normally you’d have to do this on like a tarp or something and be able to see every piece of metal that you’ve picked up. This way, just kind of dig around in the ground, and you’ll get it all. Now Pro Elite would be a little better for this, but that’s not here.
All right, so we just picked up everything that I could get here. There’ll likely be a little bit more left, but we’ll just run it over again with this thing and pick it up with that. But if you want to get in closer, you can see how much we collected in 10 minutes of driving around with this Yacare. So that’s, you know, 7 lbs or so of nails, and each one of those—a lot of these are shingle nails, too—so it’s got a nice flat base to stand up and poke your tire. So there you go—magnet, it’s very…
The Rhino magnetic sweeper is extremely popular because of the lower price point, durability, it’s many features and performance but you may want to move up to the Yacare for the following reasons;
The optional DDR XL is a heavier duty debris digging rake that deploys easier and faster than the original. The DDR XL has 5/16” inch diameter spring teeth that can dig into the ground to loosen up any embedded metal debris so it can be caught by the magnet behind the rakes. The DDR XL is available in 62”, 74”, 86” and 98” inch widths so it will work with many different sweepers. The DDR XL also leaves behind a groomed surface that serves as a visual cue of what areas have been swept already. Rubber stone guards deflect flying rocks that get thrown by spring teeth to prevent damage to nearby equipment and personnel.
An optional Debris Digging Rake accessory can be purchased for offroad magnetic sweeper trailers. The Debris Digging Rake (DDR) slips on over the tongue of a trailer and agitates the ground. The 0.215” diameter agricultural tines can be set to varying depths to disturb the ground ahead of the magnet to loosen up embedded and compacted debris so that the magnet can pick up the debris as it passes over the ground behind the debris digging rake. The distinctive pattern left by the DDR when it is digging is also great as a guide for the operator indicating areas that have already been swept for debris.
