The Nova Fork Mounted Magnetic Sweeper has a ground tracking system that features four link vertical suspension with 11” inches of vertical travel for traversing rough terrain, eliminating the need to operate lift controls of your forklift while driving with the Nova attached. The ground tracking system also includes a pivoting function that turns on a 1 3/8” bolt with UHMW bushings for smooth action. This system allows the Nova to pivot 360 degrees so the forklift can turn as sharp as possible without being impeded by the Nova.
Magnetic power is provided by a 6” inch x 8” inch permanently charged ceramic magnet that can retrieve a 2.5” inch nail off the ground from 12” inches. This magnet is on par with some of the strongest trailer magnets that Bluestreak sells. This means it can pull and hold onto a huge amount of debris at speed in the adjustable 1” inch – 4” inch sweeping height range. When its time to clean the magnet off, the Nova can be lifted over a dumpster and remotely cleaned off.
A pair of 12-volt linear actuators with 450lbs of pressing power each (900lbs total), flank the 16-gauge debris pan on the Nova and can be activated via remote control from the forklift operator’s seat. This system is powered by an onboard 12v battery that is in a weatherproof battery box built into the Nova chassis. This battery lasts 80 – 100 cycles and will need to be charged from time to time but features an isolator switch and volt gauge to monitor and shut off the power in the system.

The Nova Fork Mounted Magnetic Sweeper uses two 12-volt linear actuators that press against a 16-gauge stainless steel debris pan. The actuators have 450lbs of pressing force each and are powered by an onboard battery box which will hold a group 51 battery (approximately 9 3/8″ x 5 1/8″ x 8 3/4″ space available in box). The actuators only draw 5 Amps at full load (900lbs pressing force) but usually only pull 0.8A – 2A during normal operation so one charge is good for approximately 80-100 cycles on a group 51 battery. The battery can also be charged without removing the battery from the box using the two outer terminals. A battery is not included with purchase of Nova because they are considered dangerous goods when shipped.
Okay, so here’s a clean off demo of the new Nova magnetic sweeper. This thing is very similar to the Upland, but everything’s a little bit bigger and better. Instead of the handles like the Upland has on the back of the debris pan, there are two 12V linear actuators on either side that press down the debris pan, which separates all the debris we’ve collected here from the magnet housing, which should drop everything on the ground. So instead of the lever, you now have a remote control.
To use this, you flick that, press the green button, and you should see a little light come on. I don’t know if you picked that up on camera, but there it is. So the off button cleans it off, and the on button will return the pan back to its original spot. I’ll press the off button here, and it should begin dropping everything down. You can see the pan swinging away there and all the debris being separated from the magnetic field, which causes it all to fall to the ground. You can do this right over a dumpster, right over a scrap bin, and you don’t have to worry about picking it up off the ground. We’re just doing it here on the ground for demonstration purposes.
So once it’s at the end of the stroke, you press your on button, and that will bring the pan back to its original setting. It’s about a 20 to 30 second cycle time here. The battery has a little voltage indicator on it to tell you how much charge you have left. Obviously, when you get low, it’s not going to work as well, but there you go. You hear that sound, and you’re back at the top of the cycle, so you’re ready to start sweeping again.
So, we’ll get a shot of these little linear actuators here. These are powered by 12 volts and have 450 lb of pressing power each, so it gives you plenty of pressure to swing that pan away from the magnet to drop all your debris.
The Nova uses Bluestreak Equipment’s proprietary fork clamping system for more lateral stability and a safer, more secure fit on any forks that can be set on 30” inch centers up to 7.5” inches wide and 3.5” tall. Get more information on this system and how it attaches to forks in the video.
The first step to hooking up the Nova is, once it’s on the ground here, it’s got these little parking stands. You want to unscrew those T-handles so the little clamp for the fork pocket—that’s the clamp that actually pushes up on the bottom of the fork—is at the bottom. That just makes it a lot easier to actually get your fork in there without getting caught on anything.
And then, once you got those set up, you want to go in level with your forklift forks. It’s on 30-inch centers, so just kind of get into the bottom there and lift it up. What you want to do is lift up the Nova until it’s about level. You can look at that indicator or just kind of eyeball it. Then, once your forks are in the pocket, all you got to do is screw down those T-handles. You’ll see at the bottom there, as he’s screwing them down, the bottom actually comes up because that’s what’s applying the clamping pressure. So this is a lot more secure than just using the threaded rod to hold the fork on. This gives you a nice wide clamping base that clamps flat on flat, so the top of your fork is touching the top of those fork pockets. You get a nice, secure fit, and there you go—ready to start.

Okay, so here is a quick overview of our new NOVA fork-mounted magnetic sweeper. This is a very similar model to our Upland magnet. It’s a bit wider—I believe the Upland was a 56; this is a 74-inch sweeping width. Along with the added width, you get a larger magnet. The magnet on this one is a 6×8 assembly, so 6 x 8 x 74 inches wide. That gives you your 74-inch sweeping width, and it will pick up a nail from a maximum height of 12 inches. That’s almost on par with our, um, almost on par with the Aardvark. It’s the Cayman, that kind of level of magnetism, so that’s far above what you actually need for picking up, like, a nail or a bolt or screws—or in this case, container locks.
We’re at the shipping container yard here, and these containers all come with locks on the doors which get cut off when they get here, so they’re littered all over the ground. Same thing at port facilities—that’s where we actually got the suggestion for this from. They wanted something that goes on the front of a forklift, that’s wide, and you can run fast. So you can run this thing fast because it’s got 11 inches of suspension travel. While these forks remain at this level, that magnet can move up and down 11 inches before it starts to lift or get stuck or anything like that, if you’re set in the correct position.
It also doesn’t impede any turning ability because it pivots on this huge 1 and 3/8-inch nut here, which has UHMW bushings. This allows the magnet to go 360° around the fork pocket assembly. While it goes 360°, it will not hit the forklift, so you can turn as tight as you want. As long as you’re not hitting these off the front of anything, your wheels will never—like, the wheel of the magnet is never going to touch the forklift. It’ll just pivot in circles indefinitely, and we don’t have to worry about that kind of thing.
Our request we got from the port was—they wanted speed, they wanted power, and with power comes speed. Like I said, this is like the Aardvark kind of a magnet. It can run and pick up these little pieces, like the nails, the bolts, the locks, that kind of thing—you can do that at high speeds (well, high speed for a forklift, anyways). Also, speed comes from the suspension. Like I said before, it allows you to go through any terrain you want without having to worry about bumps and what the forks are doing. You don’t have to feather your controls at all; you just kind of get on it and drive whatever speed you feel comfortable at, and the magnet should do its job to pick up anything in your path that you’re going to encounter.
Another thing the port wanted was an automatic clean-off, so they were interested in the Upland model, but the Upland model had a lever-actuated cleanup that you had to get off the forklift to use. This thing has a remote control, which corresponds to this antenna up here and sends power from that battery box to the two linear actuators on either side of the magnet. So this can be done from the seat of the forklift. You just raise this thing up over a dumpster—or wherever you want to dump your metal—and it will clean off automatically in about a 30-second cycle out and cycle back in.
The way the linear actuators work is, there’s, like I said, two of them on either side. They’ve got 450 lbs of pressure each, so when you lift this magnet up over a dumpster (or wherever you want to dump your stuff), press the button, they come down, and they swing our 14-gauge stainless steel debris pan away from the magnet housing. That separates any debris that’s stuck to the debris pan from the big magnetic field which is coming from this block down here, so it separates the pan from the block, which will in turn drop all the debris into wherever you want to dump it. That’s an automatic system.
It is battery-powered, so you do need a 12-volt battery. We have a Group 51 battery on here that will give you enough cycles for pretty much a whole shift. They don’t draw a lot of power. On the battery box, there is a voltage meter and an on and off switch, so when you’re done with it, you can shut it off, take the key out, and no one can turn it back on until you return the key to it. Your voltage gauge also gives you an idea of how much charge you have left, which lets you know if you need to charge it or not.
But yeah, we’ve got a 74-inch sweeping width, 6×8 magnet. The fork width here is 7 and 1/12 inches on the inner diameter, so it can accommodate forks up to 7 and a half inches wide because this is a fairly small forklift you’re using it on, but it is made for a larger one. So you can go faster, work harder, cover more ground—you’ve got the 74-inch sweeping width, plenty of sweeping width for most forklifts to stay outside of the wheels, so you’re sweeping before your forklift runs over. If you have pneumatic tires, that might be a difference for you.
What else we got here? Yep, and last thing I think I need to mention here is our upward clamping fork system. So these bad boys look like just a threaded rod going down onto the fork, but it’s actually backwards. The threaded rod just goes onto this plate here—I don’t know what you’d call that, it’s kind of like a bushing kind of plate thing—so the threaded rod is threaded through this coupler, it pushes against the top of the fork pocket on this brace joint, and there’s actually a piece underneath here that clamps upwards in this kind of a motion to push the bottom of the fork and make sure that the top of the fork is actually touching the top of this housing here. So that gives you a nice flat-to-flat surface you’re clamping together—a lot more stability. You know, everyone’s seen the pictures online of the fork pockets that are all bent from clamping stuff onto your forklift and hitting stuff. That’s not going to happen with this, because you’ve got a nice flat-to-flat clamping surface. These give you a nice firm hold on it—actual side-to-side stability, which the other ones don’t—and yeah, it’s just a lot better system.
The only other features I can think to point out here are the height adjustment of the wheels. So this is a 16 1/2-inch wheel with sealant in it, so if you do get any nails with it, it’ll seal itself shut up to, I believe, a 1/4 inch or 3/8 of an inch hole, and that’s got an adjustable sweep height by unbolting the spindle it’s attached to from the main housing of the magnet. There are four positions you can adjust—just move the height of the wheel, that’ll adjust the sweeping height to give you from 1 to 4 inches of sweeping height. Once you set that, that height is maintained over any terrain you can get a forklift through. I don’t know what forklift you can get that can go through 11 inches of suspension travel, but you’ve got 11 inches of suspension travel and 360° of pivot.
So this thing has our ground tracking suspension, so it just finds its way through whatever you’re doing. It can go side to side and go in and out, and go up and down 11 inches. No matter how much your forklift is bouncing, you don’t have to worry about those forks—just let them go. As long as you’re comfortable sitting on a forklift, I think you can go through anything that you can get a forklift through with this thing.
Other than that, it’s a—you know, we clean up this yard here. We got a lot of locks, got a lot of slag, because they do repairs on shipping containers here as well as just selling them and moving them around, so we picked up some slag from them cutting off stuff, stuff cutting up stuff, and, um, yeah, got some nails, got a lot of big spikes out of the ground, got some bolts, that sort of thing. But yeah, this is our new NOVA magnetic sweeper by Blue Streak Equipment. All parts should be available online, and these will be ready to sell as soon as I get this video edited.
Oh, and for attaching, it’s got parking stands on the back—just drop it down, it’ll stay where you want, you just run into it and pick it back up again, and that’s it.

Sweeping height of the Nova magnetic sweeper is adjustable by changing the position of the spindle that holds the wheel to the main magnet assembly. Sweeping height can be adjusted from 1” inch to 4” depending on which holes are used to bolt the wheel spindle to the magnet frame.
So, from this angle, you can also see how the sweeping height is adjusted on the Nova. Like I said in the other video, these bolts or these wheels are attached to a spindle via a 5-bolt hub, and you see that spindle there is on a 2x—looks like a 2×2—square tube of steel. So all you’ve got to do to change your sweeping height is remove the bolts from this yellow piece with the holes in it, obviously while the sweeper is in the air, and, um, so you undo the bolts, pull the spindle out, line it up to wherever you want, and then reinstall the bolts. So when you set your sweeping height—I believe this one’s set at 3 inches or so—what that does for you is it’ll keep the bottom of that magnet tray at whatever height you set it at at all times, because you’ve got your 11 inches of suspension travel from these, uh, double dog bone kind of things. You’ve got 11 inches up and down, and you have the pivot function from the big nut on the top. So that is our ground-tracking suspension system, which keeps the magnet on the ground at all times. You can drive pretty well carefree over whatever you can get your forklift over, and if you do hit the ground, it’s not a big deal—you’ve got a big stainless steel pan.

This is the new Nova fork-mounted magnetic sweeper by Blue Streak Equipment. It’s a 74-inch wide magnet that’s capable of picking up a 2 1/2-inch nail from 12 inches off the ground. This magnet has our Ground Tracking Suspension System, which allows you to just drive over any terrain without having to worry about what level the magnet is set at, so you don’t have to really worry about striking the ground too much.
We’re here at this container yard, sweeping for container locks and whatever other debris may be around. This magnet was developed from a suggestion from a port that said they had problems with lots of container locks being on the ground, and they wanted something that could quickly and easily just clean them up. So this is a very powerful magnet that’ll hold a lot of container locks. But what the port specified, and what’s new on this model compared to our Upland, is: number one, it’s a stronger magnet; but number two, if you look closely, there’s a battery box. So that battery box actually powers two actuators on either side of the debris pan, which allows you to clean off the magnet using a remote control rather than have to get off and flip the debris pan like you would have to on the Upland.
So this magnet is an improvement over the Upland in a number of ways. Like I mentioned, it’s got the battery clean-off, which you can do just from the seat of the forklift without having to get off. It’s wider—it’s a 74-inch sweeping width rather than 56, which lets you cover ground quicker. So this thing has a 7 1/2-inch wide fork pocket on it, and what that lets you do is use anything from these small little forklifts like this one, which is only about a 4,500 lb forklift, to some larger dual-wheel outdoor forklifts, which would obviously have wider forks.
You can see here he’s not having to adjust the height of the magnet at all or having to feather the forks or anything like that. You’ve got 11 inches of suspension, which will take up any kind of bumps you’re going across or any big potholes or anything like that. So the forklift is free to just drive around and let the magnet do its thing, while the 16 1/2-inch wheels just maintain whatever sweeping height you set it at. The sweeping height can be set from 1 to 4 inches. I believe we have it on about 2 inches right now, so that sweeping height gets maintained throughout any terrain that you’re going over, just thanks to the suspension system.
We’re giving it a lift here to take a look at the pan. This is a 14-gauge stainless steel debris pan that’s angled on either side to prevent any damage occurring from hitting stuff, and you’ll see what we’ve collected in just the short time we’ve been here. If you look closely as the Nova is being operated, you’ll see that the forks are not staying level. That upper part, where the Nova sticker is, is going to bounce up and down as the forklift moves around, but thanks to the dual-arm suspension there, you’ve got 11 inches of travel where the forks can move independently of the magnet as it rolls on the ground.
What that allows you to do is drive over pretty much anything that you’ll find on a place where you’re operating a forklift without having to worry about constantly feathering the controls of the forklift to avoid hitting the ground with the magnet. Now, if you do hit the ground with the magnet, it’s not a huge deal because it’s a good 14-gauge stainless steel pan that is angled in a way to where your magnet will just skip over whatever you hit, and you won’t have to worry about getting caught on anything or really damaging too much.
That suspension—you can see it’s kind of working there. You drop down into a little rut, and it just drops with the rut, stays on the ground. We call this our Ground Tracking Suspension System, and we had the same thing on the Upland. It works great for any forklift application, and it also pivots all the way around. On the top there’s a giant nut that has UHMW bushings, which allows the Nova’s magnet housing to rotate independently of the forklift. Now, it’s designed in such a way that it won’t actually hit the wheels no matter how hard you turn. There are two little stands there, and the wheels won’t ever go past those. It’ll rotate all the way around, but it won’t hit those U pegs there, so you don’t have to worry about the wheel coming back and hitting your forklift. You can turn as sharp as you want, as sharp as your forklift will turn, and it won’t ever get caught on it.
You see the suspension there—you kind of drop down into a section, it pops up, doesn’t have to adjust anything. That’s a full lock turn with the forklift, and there’s the Nova just tracking along with it. So this sort of system allows you to really do carefree operation while you’re sweeping and work at any speed that you really want to on a forklift. I mean, you’re not hitting Mach 10 with a forklift, but you can drive at whatever speed you feel comfortable with where you’re not getting bounced around too much, and you can rest assured that the Nova is going to stay at the sweeping height you set it at.
So you can set it at 1 to 4 inches sweeping height just by adjusting what the wheels are bolted to. They’re on little spindles, and you change the bolts where the spindles are held—there’s a bunch of pre-drilled spots on the chassis. So you change where the spindles are bolted to, and you can adjust your sweeping height from 1 to 4 inches.
This section of this yard is where they repair and modify the trailers. So any repairs that need to be done, like if they need to cut a hole out of one to patch it or fix some hinges or that sort of thing, this is the area they do it. The Nova is not only good for picking up the container locks, but it’s also good to pick up pretty well any type of debris. This 6×8 magnet is massive—it’s one of the most powerful magnets we have, even compared to some of the trailers we got. So this thing will pick up any type of debris you got; if you got big chunks of scrap, you got big railway ties, you got nails, bolts, tools, whatever you want to get back, this thing will do it for you as long as you got a forklift powerful enough to move it around.
With this 6×8 magnet you’re getting a comparable power level to our Arvar or Soki—it’s close to those two, not quite, but it’s close. That’s plenty of power for pretty much any pickup situation; there’s only extreme cases where you need any more pickup power than this. So if you’re just trying to do—and what that means is you can do with all that extra pickup power, because you don’t need this much power to pick up nails or bolts or stuff like that, but what you get when you have this much power is that you can go a lot faster. So if you have a bigger forklift than this—this thing’s kind of small—you can really run it pretty quickly around wherever you’re going, and because it’s got that suspension and extra pickup power, you can just fly with this thing and it’ll still get plenty of debris from wherever you’re sweeping.
You can see on the bottom there, there’s a good amount of debris building up already, and it is scraping through some stuff, going through some potholes and stuff like that, but it’s not coming off the magnet.
Okay, so here’s what we collected from just that little scrap area over there. You saw how long that took—it was like maybe 2–3 minutes, and that’s a pretty good pile of scrap. It’s not only slag—there’s a ton of slag in this lot here—but there’s also a lot of screws and looks like cut-off container tie-down points here; I think that’s what those are. But there’s a lot of washers, rods, wire, bolts, a couple little C’s over there, and yeah, that took all of 2 minutes, and we’ve pulled that much debris out of there. So there’s a lot of things in there that could give you a flat tire.
The Nova is powered by permanently charged C8 ceramic magnets that will never decrease in power, the powerful 6” inch by 8” inch magnet housing is separated from collected metal debris by a 16-gauge stainless steel debris pan, when this pan is swung away by the linear actuators, the collected metal is separated from the magnet housing’s field so it can be dropped in a dumpster.
The powerful magnet on the Nova can pick up a 2.5”inch 8 penny nail from up to 12” inches. This pickup power allows you to operate at sweeping heights that will prevent the debris pan from hitting the ground while still effectively collecting metal debris at speed.
